Over 4 days and 40 films by upcoming filmmakers from 21 countries, the Athens Shorts Film Festival 2024 aims to highlight the power of independent cinema through shorts with big stories to tell.
Blending fiction and documentary films of various genres and aesthetics, this year’s programme touches upon daily challenges, fears, and modern life issues. Through 7 carefully curated thematic strands, the Festival interweaves a tapestry of all these things that define, concern, or bewilder us.
Life-based experiences, personal narrations, notions and current issues unfold through the filmmakers’ perspectives inviting the audience to delve into the art of short filmmaking.

This is a girl’s world
Dedicated to females, this programme focuses on experiences, fiction stories, thoughts and narrations of women from around the world. From the Philippines and Africa to Spain and the United States, ‘This is a girl’s world’ highlights female filmmakers and brings women’s stories to the foreground.
Shorts mixtape: the lovesick one
This shorts mixtape is all about love, romance and the end of them. First relationships, breakups, marriages, and all the between are presented through comedies and dramas. Stories that may make you laugh, cry or neither but you’ll definitely relate to.

Through a diverse range of stories, this programme examines the father figure. A look at the many faces of fatherhood and the complex dynamics between male parents and their children. Young or funny dads, absent or abusive dads, dads in grief. Stories about dads with issues or dad’s issues.
